SAP Sports One: Soccer in 3D

The impetus came from a hackathon for SAP developers to create a prototype that combines the possibilities of immersive technology with SAP solutions. The SAP Sports One team came out on top with a prototype that harnesses the potential of spatial computing in the preparation of soccer matches. With SAP Sports One, sports organizations can optimize performance both on and off the pitch. The prototype is being used successfully by clubs such as TSG Hoffenheim and FC Bayern Munich, as well as by the German Football Association (DFB).
With the help of an Apple Vision Pro, game scenes can be reproduced and analyzed in 3D from the perspective of each player. Switching between the perspectives of the different players makes it possible to better understand certain game situations. This makes it easier to recognize situations in which different player behaviour might have made more sense.
Using an app on the Apple Vision Pro, the prototype is designed to help teams optimize their performance - whether it's preparing for an upcoming match or analysing player performances in past games. Timo Gross, Head of Match Analysis at soccer club TSG Hoffenheim, sees great potential in the simulation of match scenarios using immersive 3D technology. "This improves player training and tactical understanding," he explains. "I even believe that this has the potential to pave the way for a new approach to player development, especially at youth level."
