"No sustainable digital policy breakthrough".
Of the 135 specific digital-related projects agreed in the coalition agreement, 64 were implemented in full and 47 in part. This corresponds to 82% of the projects. However, 24 initiatives (18%) fell by the wayside.
"With 82% of digital projects fully or partially implemented, the Grand Coalition has achieved a decent result - but unfortunately not a sustainable digital policy breakthrough"says Bitkom-
President Achim Berg. "The coronavirus pandemic has probably had a greater impact on digitalization than the federal and state governments. And it has shown that we have a drastic backlog in many areas, especially when it comes to the digitalization of public offices, authorities and schools."
For example, Bitkom sees the creation of a digital ministry as one of the most important projects for the new federal government. This requires a separate, strong ministry that is fully committed to digitalization and manages and coordinates the corresponding activities of the federal government.
