More than cosmetics
Infrastructure automation software: Smarter use through web GUI
Web GUIs are operating system-independent and offer more options for intuitive application use. Web GUIs also help to increase productivity and overall effectiveness and are therefore more than just design cosmetics. The system management framework software called Epos (Empirius Planning and Operations Suite) was designed with web GUI use in mind from the outset. It is positioned as a professional, fully automated infrastructure solution and was developed on the basis of the wealth of experience of the widely used BlueCopy automation solution for SAP system copies and the extensive know-how in the entire SAP infrastructure area.
Epos and BlueCopy
As Thomas Bauer, Team Leader IT ERP Systems and Servers at Epos and BlueCopy user Kurz, a hot stamping and coating technology company with around 4000 employees, explains, "Our experience with BlueCopy has shown that we can rely on really smart automation software. From our point of view, this has been taken even further with the Epos system management framework. Certainly not least thanks to the new Empirius web GUI."
According to Empirius, both Epos and BlueCopy are constantly being developed further. For example, BlueCopy for SAP system copies is to be integrated into the Epos infrastructure system management framework.
Automation
In almost 20 years, Empirius has established a very good market position for automation solutions for SAP infrastructures. This is based on in-depth and comprehensive expertise in the entire SAP infrastructure and basis area. For many years, the company has focused on providing a smart, highly professional automation solution for creating SAP system copies called BlueCopy, but also for setting up SAP sandboxes (BlueClone) - in addition to SAP Basis services and SAP consulting services.
Around one and a half years ago, Empirius expanded its solution focus and launched a smart and easy-to-use SAP system management framework called Epos; a central management software for the SAP infrastructure area that can be used to perform actions on individual or all SAP systems.
Well over 100 medium-sized and large SAP user companies are among the customers of the Munich-based automation specialist, including prominent companies such as Stihl, Voith, Kurz and Hannover Re. But also SAP Managed Service Providers such as NTT Data or Q.beyond.
Empirius' areas of expertise include automation (SAP system and client copies, recurring SAP Basis tasks), anonymization (test data - SAP and non-SAP), workflow automation (all SAP and non-SAP processes). And in the area of services: Migrations, release changes, operational planning and support, architecture planning or managed cloud services.
With the SAP system management framework Epos (Empirius Planning and Operations Suite), the company has significantly expanded its range of solutions in terms of automation software. This is not just a field of tasks and solutions, but a management tool with automation functionality that takes into account key components of an SAP system environment, such as servers, databases or SAP components: in terms of administration, control or management and control with monitoring. Accordingly, Epos includes info apps (for central SAP components) and automation apps (such as SAP kernel updates or system maintenance and, in future, SAP system copies).
Practical example
An example from SAP practice: Leonhard Kurz Stiftung sees the use of Epos as a starting point for further automation initiatives for processes in the SAP Basis environment. A kind of automation booster for SAP Basis. The motivation following the smooth system implementation and the experience gained with the Epos system management automation solution is great. The aim is to handle many SAP infrastructure tasks systematically and make manual interventions or activities superfluous.
