Almost 40,000 new jobs created
According to Bitkom calculations, the German market for IT, telecommunications and consumer electronics is set to grow by 3.6 percent this year to 184.9 billion euros. By the end of the year, companies in Germany are expected to create 39,000 additional jobs. Currently, 1.25 million people are employed in the industry. The business climate is at a similarly high level to before the outbreak of the corona pandemic at the beginning of 2020. The Bitkom-ifo Digital Index stood at 24.0 points in December 2021, 17 points higher than the business climate for the economy as a whole. Employment growth in the Bitkom sector has picked up strongly again after an interim corona-induced slowdown.
In 2022, 39,000 additional jobs are expected to be created, after the number of jobs already increased by 34,000 to 1.25 million last year. On a global scale, however, the German ICT market plays a subordinate role. Germany's share of global ICT spending is expected to be 3.9 percent in 2022. The share is declining from year to year because investments and spending are growing faster in other countries, particularly in the Asian region in addition to the USA (+4.7 percent). The growth leaders are India (+9.1 percent) and China (+5.3 percent). However, the USA accounts for more than a third of the global ICT market (36.0 percent), followed at a considerable distance by China with a good ninth (11.8 percent).
