To implement their strategic goals, 51 percent of respondents in the new Lünendonk study either want to build their own platform ecosystems or become part of existing platforms. In this context, 48 percent of the companies want to expand their competencies in data analysis more strongly and transform themselves into data-driven organizations.
To meet the changing challenges of digitization, companies are increasing their efforts in innovation development. Nearly half of the companies surveyed are focusing on reducing costs/increasing efficiency (51 percent) and increasing flexibility (49 percent) when developing innovations. "Many companies were responding to a better cost structure and a higher degree of digitization among the competition, but also to the platform economy with its digital business models, some of which are very successful", says Mario Zillmann, partner at Lünendonk and author of the study.
"These are based on high process efficiency, consistent data analysis, the use of AI and the cloud, and high user centricity."The exchange of data across system boundaries via open-interface IT systems to create end-to-end processes is an important prerequisite for the digitization of processes and the development of digital business models.
