Digital and media skills
Bitkom: Digitization as an opportunity
There is a general openness to digital technologies: Nine out of ten have a positive attitude toward digital technologies. For 89 percent, it is impossible to imagine life without digital technologies; for 80 percent, they make life easier. Measures to strengthen digital skills are important to the respondents. Eight out of ten want digital media and information skills to be promoted across the entire education chain. This is a key finding of a representative study commissioned by the "Digital for All" initiative on the occasion of the third nationwide Digital Day on June 24 this year.
"The vast majority of people in Germany use digital technologies as a matter of course, whether in their private lives or professionally at work. But there is also a far too large group that cannot keep up with developments, for whom digitization is happening too fast. This is a challenge, and the majority also sees it that way. Half would like to participate more in the digital world, but fail to do so because they lack technical knowledge. This is where we need to start and focus on teaching digital and media skills from childhood to old age."said Bitkom President Achim Berg at the presentation of the study.
To promote digital participation throughout society, Digitaltag was held for the third time on June 24 this year. Across Germany, interested parties were able to experience digitization at more than 2,000 events and activities. The sponsor of the Digital Day is the "Digital for All" initiative. The broad alliance brings together 28 organizations from civil society, culture, science, business, welfare and the public sector. Digitaltag 2022 is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior.
