Book tips - Data protection 2021
Data protection and data management
With increasing cloud use and more home offices, data protection is becoming more and more important. Internet giants such as Apple, Facebook and others have a duty to protect the personal data of their users, but are known to be relatively lax with the laws. For example, U.S. security expert Patrick Wardle wrote on Twitter that Apple has apparently built a way to bypass security measures such as firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs) into the new macOS Big Sur operating system. While firewall software can easily block third-party applications, there are exceptions for Apple services, Wardle said. And those who want to know how Facebook and other social networks use their data should plan a little more time for this: it takes an average of 104.8 minutes to read TikTok's guidelines. A survey from the portal Addictivetips found that 83 percent agree without reading the policies and 74 percent don't think they understand them anyway. To prevent such faux pas from happening to your company, we present five books that deal precisely with the topic of data protection.

Power Machines
Digital superstar companies have managed to centralize the most and most relevant data on their servers over the past twenty years. These data monopolies may be good for the shareholders of Facebook, Amazon and Google, but they are bad for progress. After all, for us to beat Alzheimer's, make the railroad run on time, and successfully fight poverty, everyone must have access to data - from scientists to innovative SMEs to social workers. So it's time to oblige the data-rich superstar companies to share their data treasures and rethink data protection. Thomas Ramge and Viktor Mayer-Schönberger call for a departure from German-style data protection and make the case for a Data Protection Regulation that is as necessary for our prosperity as the Data Protection Regulation is for our civil liberties.
Home office in practice
Author Wolfram Gieseke shows how to set up your workstation optimally for the home office, which security solutions make sense, how to exchange documents easily or edit them together, and how to communicate best with colleagues and customers.
