Kubernetes security investigation
The issue of security is a top priority for many companies
The Kubernetes container orchestration platform has become the cornerstone of many digital transformation initiatives in recent years. However, many concerns still exist about securing containerized workloads. This is a key finding of "The State of Kubernetes Security for 2023," a survey conducted by Red Hat, a provider of open source solutions. It surveyed 600 DevOps experts, developers and security managers on a global level. The survey addresses the specific security risks companies face in cloudnative development - including risks to their software supply chain. In addition, the report shows how companies can mitigate the threats to protect their applications and IT environments.
Surveys from previous years already show that security is seen as one of the biggest problems when it comes to container adoption. In this year's survey, 38 percent of respondents say that the issue of security is not taken seriously enough or that investments in security are inadequate - this represents an increase of 7 percentage points compared to the previous year. Among the top reasons for adopting cloudnative technologies are high flexibility, adaptability and reliability, as well as faster time-to-market. Despite these benefits, 67 percent of respondents have delayed adoption, according to the survey. The reason is security concerns.
This is not too surprising, as new technologies often bring unexpected security challenges. For example, more than half of the respondents have experienced a software supply chain issue related to cloudnative and containerized development in the last twelve months. A comprehensive DevSecOps approach is an effective strategy here.
