62.6 billion cyberattacks
The report shows that the company detected and blocked 119,000 cyber threats per minute last year. The attacks put heavy pressure on both home users and corporate infrastructures.
According to Trend Micro, home networks were particularly targeted by cybercriminals. They were looking for a gateway into corporate networks or aimed to compromise IoT devices and integrate them into botnets.
Trend Micro found that the number of attacks on homes increased 210 percent year-over-year to nearly 2.9 billion. The vast majority (73 percent) of these attacks were brute-force attacks aimed at gaining control of a router or smart device.
Email attacks accounted for 91 percent of the 62.6 billion threats Trend Micro blocked last year. Germany accounted for around 1.03 billion of these attacks. This puts it in sixth place worldwide among the most affected countries.
