The new software solution generates and analyzes data for a better insight into the entire logistics system.

To do this, it either uses the connection of RTLS systems from leading technology partners or integrates localization data into SAP EWM. The entire plant view is visualized as a digital twin on the computer and can be freely zoomed in 2D/3D.

The software solution is available to the control center or other employees as a web interface. It can be easily integrated into the existing IT environment. By using the heatmap, companies can optimize the use of space and process automation in warehouses.

As a result, you benefit from cost savings and competitive advantages. The complete solution, which is individually tailored to the respective customer requirements, consists of the heatmap software, ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning, anchors and tags in different sizes and sampling rates for people, vehicles and assets.

Based on UWB technology, the heatmap uses indoor tracking of people, machines and goods to generate detailed analyses of the optimal use of existing areas and routes. The software processes the data from IoT sensors and higher-level IT systems, such as SAP, in real time.

Process delays due to overloading of storage areas or production zones can be quickly and easily identified visually over time using a replay function for historical data. Additional analysis options for critical routes form the basis for direct flow optimization and access to in-depth data analyses.

Kubernetes for Bare Metal and Edge to Cloud

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is launching the industry's first Kubernetes-based container platform designed for both cloud-native and monolithic applications with persistent data storage.

HPE Container Platform enables enterprises to accelerate the development of new and existing applications - on bare metal or within virtualized infrastructures, in the public cloud and in edge environments.

The HPE Container Platform is based on the technologies of BlueData and MapR, which were acquired by HPE, in conjunction with the open-source Kubernetes system.

The solution dramatically reduces cost and complexity by running containers on bare metal - while providing the flexibility to deploy on virtual machines and cloud instances.

Customers benefit from greater efficiency, higher utilization and improved performance by reducing the number of stacks and eliminating the need for virtualization.

Operations of the Future

Celonis, provider of AI-supported process mining and process excellence software, was honored with the Game Changer Award in the "Operations of the Future" category at a festive gala.

The jury honored Celonis for its innovative Intelligent Business Cloud, which the company has successfully implemented on the market. This involves the conversion of legacy logistics systems at car assembly plants to an SAP template.

With Rastatt, Kecskemét, Bremen, Iracemapolís, Sindelfingen, Tuscaloosa and Moscow, seven Mercedes plants have now gone live with the solution. In January 2020, "AmSupply" will go live in the body shop of the Daimler plant in Bremen. For the start-up, Daimler is being supported by Abat with around 30 coaches - students from a wide range of universities and disciplines.

Since the beginning of November, ten coaches have been undergoing training in Bremen's Überseestadt district in order to prepare them optimally for their work at the plant by the end of the year.

The next group joined in mid-November, with further support following at the beginning of December. Working as a start-up coach offers students the opportunity to familiarize themselves intensively with the basics of SAP and "AmSupply" over several weeks.

They can also have their work recognized as an internship during their studies or recommend themselves for a Bachelor's/Master's thesis in the automotive and logistics sectors. In addition, the work is appropriately remunerated.

The start-up coaches will be working in Halls 7 and 70 from the beginning of January to the end of February 2020. The areas of operation include incoming goods, production supply, the warehouse, production and dispatch.

The coaches see themselves as a link between the external logistics service providers, Daimler logistics service provider management and the "AmSupply" project, helping them to find their way around the system and addressing any problems that arise, to which they can then respond individually thanks to intensive training.

Abat provides Daimler with 30 coaches (students from a wide range of disciplines) for its SAP project called "AmSupply", who act as a link between external logistics service providers, Daimler logistics management and the project.

Investment topic number one: automation

It has been at the top of the list of companies' most important investment topics for years: the automation of processes. The search for new ways to make business and IT processes more efficient, faster, more cost-effective and, above all, of higher quality is increasingly becoming a key factor for future competitive advantages.

Robotic process automation (RPA) - the fully automated processing of structured business processes using software - is very important in this context. A special analysis carried out by market research company Lünendonk & Hossenfelder in collaboration with NTT Data shows that RPA software already has a high degree of penetration in large companies.

For example, 11% of the companies surveyed already use RPA to a considerable extent, while a further 27% have implemented digital robots to automate individual process steps. 15 percent are not planning to use them at all, while 47 percent of those surveyed are currently looking into this topic.

RPA software is currently used particularly frequently to automate tasks in customer management/customer contact centers, sales, HR and IT. However, accounting/controlling is also a strong area of application.

In principle, the companies surveyed expect the technology to bring a whole range of improvements. Almost all respondents see efficiency and cost optimization as an opportunity resulting from the use of RPA software.

90% of the CIOs, CDOs and CFOs surveyed also expect automated processes to increase productivity. The companies surveyed have achieved the greatest successes in quality improvements, faster throughput times and cost reductions.

For example, 69% of RPA users speak of specific quality improvements, such as greater process reliability and correct data input. For 47 percent, the use of RPA tools has led to an acceleration in process speed.

In addition, 40 percent of companies report higher customer satisfaction as a result of more automation.

1st question: Does your company already use Robotic Process Automation (RPA for short) to automate business processes?
2nd question: If yes or planned: In which areas are RPA solutions already being used in your company or where are deployment scenarios specifically planned this year?
Source: Lünendonk Special Analysis 2019 "Robotic Process Automation", November 2019.

New member of the Open Data Initiative

Software AG joins the Open Data Initiative (ODI) as a member of the Partner Advisory Board.
