Centric's add-on tools make a significant contribution to meeting the requirements of internal and external audits and ensuring a consistently high standard of data quality.

Demand-Driven Production Scheduling

Camelot ITLab has achieved a new level of certification for the Camelot Demand-Driven Lean Planning Suite: The Demand-Driven Institute has confirmed full compliance with the Demand-Driven Operating Model (DDOM).

This extends the certification of the software for Demand-Driven Network Planning and Replenishment to include production planning and scheduling functions based on DDMRP principles. This makes the Camelot Lean Suite the first solution based on SAP technology to achieve this level.

German companies continue to rely on EDI

EDI, the standardized electronic data interchange, remains an evergreen in the transfer of business data between companies. The concept is deeply rooted in the central business processes - sales, logistics, purchasing and finance - of companies.

This means that investment in EDI solutions and their further development will continue in the future. This is confirmed by the results of the EDI 2019 trend study conducted on behalf of Esker.

The study confirms the high market penetration. The majority of companies rely on electronic data interchange for the transfer of business data, with almost a third even using EDI for more than half of all messages.

It should also be emphasized that almost 70% of survey participants operate their EDI solution in-house at their own company. In contrast, only 17% of respondents have outsourced their EDI infrastructure to a cloud EDI provider.

Cloud solutions have been established in the EDI market for some time now and offer many advantages, as they are neither expensive to purchase nor require extensive maintenance. Companies can therefore make better use of the positive effects of EDI. The survey participants see future potential in EDI.

Just over half of the companies surveyed will increase the proportion of EDI in the long term, while a further twelve percent will renew or expand their EDI infrastructure. None of the companies surveyed plan to reduce the proportion of EDI.

Greenfield introduction of S/4 Hana completed

The largest digitalization project in the history of ESA, the purchasing organization of the Swiss automotive and motor vehicle industry, has now successfully gone live.

In a concerted effort, ESA and the SAP consulting firm Itelligence replaced the almost 20-year-old SAP solution with the new S/4 Hana landscape. ESA now also uses SAP Fiori to cover the company's highly mobile day-to-day operations.

As part of the introduction of S/4, process re-engineering was on the agenda. Manual processes such as signing off delivery bills for delivery tours were digitized.

These tasks are now performed by the SAP Fiori app CMD (Chauffeur Mobile Device): Delivery bills are signed electronically, returns are recorded digitally by scan. And after the tour, the app outputs the delivery bills in sorted form. The ESA eShop was also relaunched, as its importance had grown immensely.

Suse brings Enterprise Linux to the Oracle Cloud

Suse Linux Enterprise Server and Suse Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications are now also available for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Suse is thus further expanding its offerings on leading public clouds.

This offers customers the ability to leverage high-performance virtual machines and bare metal computing with the proven price/performance benefits for their Linux workloads. With applications running on Suse Linux Enterprise Server in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, organizations can increase agility and reduce operational costs.

The Suse "Bring Your Own Subscription" program also offers customers the ability to bring existing subscriptions to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to deploy new workloads or migrate existing workloads from the data center to the Oracle Cloud. This is free of charge from the Suse side and includes the benefits of the customer's current Suse support level.

Integrate data sources - without coding!

The Berlin-based start-up M2MGO, in which Salt Solutions recently acquired a stake, is presenting its modular Anything-as-a-Service (XaaS) suite for IoT, which has been integrated into Salt Solutions' IoT platform D4S (Data for Services) and is now also being presented under this name.

With D4S, companies can quickly integrate a wide variety of data sources into their system and create apps without any programming, quickly and easily using drag-and-drop. In the digital transformation, D4S helps to ensure that technological building blocks quickly create added value.

D4S enables companies to improve their processes (operational excellence) and, for example, reduce errors in logistics or operate paperless production.

But D4S can do even more: the XaaS suite enables companies to develop smart services and products (business excellence) and to position themselves for the future by establishing data-driven business models.

With D4S, a wide variety of data sources can be quickly integrated and data silos merged. This includes sources from operational technology (OT) such as sensors, devices and machines, IT data from company systems such as ERP, CRM or MES and from the cloud, as well as programming interfaces (API).

Thanks to its adaptability, D4S is suitable for a wide range of applications and industries. Individual user guidance requirements can be implemented without programming and adapted at any time.

World Quality Report 2019

Focusing on business goals and customer expectations is currently the biggest challenge on the road to agility and DevOps acceptance. This is the conclusion of the World Quality Report 2019-20 (WQR), published by Capgemini in collaboration with Micro Focus.

The study highlights the need for better quality assurance (QA) and testing activities that contribute to business success. In addition, the authors point to the increasing importance of security issues within IT teams: 59 percent report deficiencies in controls designed to ensure that data processing and storage systems comply with security policies.

According to the report, the future of quality assurance and testing practices will involve a smarter, connected approach to testing with intelligent analytics, test automation platforms and enhanced technical skills.

This year's WQR also re-emphasizes insufficient progress in test data and test environment management (TDM and TEM) as the challenges for organizations continue to grow: 60 percent of respondents this year confirmed that the biggest barrier to test environments is cost.

Open source has the edge

Almost everyone has long been consciously or unconsciously using software with open source components somewhere in their everyday lives. Open source has also already arrived in the German economy.

Larger companies are already consciously relying on open source and the majority of companies have already recognized the advantages of open source. These include, above all, potential cost savings, high security and independence from individual software providers.

Open source software has come a long way and is now at a very mature stage, supporting a wide range of applications. In fact, some areas of the digital world would be unimaginable without open source.

Suse has identified five areas in which open source is the dominant force: cloud-native computing and containers, high-performance computing, databases, web and internet servers and IoT. When it comes to the Internet of Things in particular, open source is clearly ahead when it comes to embedded systems as fundamental building blocks of IoT solutions.

90 minutes instead of 20 hours

In a four-month migration project, MSG migrated all of Delivery Hero's productive SAP systems to the AWS cloud and made them productive. Delivery Hero, which hosts ordering and delivery platforms in 41 countries worldwide, was reaching its limits with the growing volumes of data in on-premises operations.

Further growth and increasing sales at the company, which was founded in 2011, led to a forty-fold increase in data between 2016 and 2018. Delivery Hero has to record millions of transactions worldwide, especially at the end of the month, which leads to strong peaks.

The challenge: The ordering platforms of the various Delivery Hero brands are based on different infrastructures and technologies, which is why heterogeneous processes are required for invoice postings.

As a result, the consumption of resources in the data center was enormous at peak times. Delivery Hero and MSG used agile approaches for the migration project so that the customer and service provider were always in close coordination.

As every order is processed via Delivery Hero's SAP system, system downtimes mean a direct drop in sales. It was therefore essential to minimize system downtime as much as possible during the migration.

To ensure minimal downtime, the MSG team replicated two copies of Delivery Hero's production database in the AWS cloud via SAP Hana System Replication. This enabled the ongoing operation of the SAP systems to be mirrored in the public cloud to the second.

Thanks to the copies, it was possible to create test systems with live data without cutting the synchronization to the source system and risking downtime.

Task mining integrates interaction data in the cloud

Celonis announces the expansion of its Intelligent Business Cloud. With the Celonis Task Mining Engine, organizations can now, for the first time, combine existing business data analyzed from operating systems using Celonis AI-based process mining technology with anonymized user interaction data.

This gives companies a complete overview of the actual business processes running throughout the entire organization - from the user to the entire company level. Celonis uncovers optimization potential, achieves improvements in workflows and continuously monitors processes.

In this way, frictional losses in company processes can be avoided. There are essentially two sources of data to represent the work done in a company: Business data is collected through "event collection" in operating systems while a process is running.

They show the organizational view of the processes. User interaction data, on the other hand, is recorded via the clicks made by employees on the screen. Until now, user interaction has often been used in isolation in order to save employees or reduce costs. Celonis is now bringing these two data sources together for the first time. The aim is to provide companies with real added value and a competitive advantage.

The Celonis Task Mining Engine not only collects clicks on screens. Since the changeover to the new product generation is imminent for all SAP user companies, they should already be fundamentally thinking about a realignment of their PLM strategy.

A system for enterprise resource planning and one for managing product creation across the entire lifecycle are two different things and should remain so in the future. Procad has therefore improved the integration of its PLM platform Pro.file so that engineering companies are prepared for the upcoming S/4 migration.

Anyone who relies on Pro.file here also receives an integrated DMStec at the same time. Because PLM does not work without the linking of all product-relevant information (including that from documents). When switching from CDESK to Pro.file, all you have to do later during the migration to S/4 Hana is flip the integration switch.

Better networking in service and maintenance

MobileX presents version 8.0 of the Field Service Management Suite. The latest version offers a number of new features in the mobile solutions and in deployment planning.

This includes better networking of technicians and customers, daily reports and dashboards in MobileX-CrossMIP as well as new features in MobileX-SubConnect, the web-based solution for integrating subcontractors. In MobileX-CrossMIP, the mobile service app, the technicians' order-related and non-order-related working times are now automatically summarized in a "daily report" for time accounting, which can be individually adapted via configuration. Among other things, a "time clock mode" with start and end of day is available.

In addition, extensive rules can be defined for seamless time recording. In a dashboard, technicians can see at a glance how many hours they have worked per day and week, how many breaks they have taken or how long their travel times were.

In addition to the list view, the planned jobs and the actual times reported can also be displayed in a calendar view for each day and week. For ad hoc jobs on site, the technician can now also create a local job offline and record all feedback including service reports for this job.

Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant

Blackline has been recognized by Gartner as a Leader in the "Magic Quadrant for Cloud Financial Close Solutions" for the third time in a row.
