The digital assistant communicates directly with a back-end system such as SAP Enterprise Asset Management (SAP EAM) via a mobile device using voice or text input. In this way, it enables convenient and fast access to maintenance or servicing information. This is a real added value that occasional users in particular will appreciate, and in maintenance it takes account of the trend toward IT consumerization in the wake of digital transformation. In developing Marvin, the SAP full-service provider drew on the SAP Conversational AI cloud chatbot platform. Thanks to its openness, the digital assistant can be embedded in communication and messenger services such as Microsoft Teams or Microsoft Skype for Business. For the virtual maintenance assistant, T.con received the prestigious Maintainer Award 2019 in the category "Special Award for Innovation".

SAP-qualified for the first time

SAP has awarded the Itelligence Logistics Bridge, an IoT solution from Itelligence, the "SAP-Qualified Packaged Solution" seal for the first time. This qualification confirms that Itelligence's cloud services are a good basis for the use of modern SAP software. The Itelligence Logistics Bridge packaged solution is a configurable dashboard for operations managers that displays IoT data in real time and in context with other data from SAP applications. It bridges the gap between different information sources such as IoT data, business unit data and other transaction data using a unified command center - comparable to the bridge on a ship. The "bridge" thus ensures end-to-end transparency of business processes in real time and across multiple business areas.

Bogestra switches to S/4

rku.it and Bogestra jointly introduce SAP S/4 Hana. This makes the Bochum-based company one of the first public transport companies in Germany to rely on the new solution. With more than 2200 employees, Bogestra is one of the largest public transport companies in North Rhine-Westphalia and successfully migrated its previous system technology solutions in the areas of Finance and Logistic to S/4 Hana at the beginning of 2019. In addition to the technical provision of all required S/4 Hana systems, rku.it supported Bogestra during the implementation in the areas of financial accounting, controlling, project management, materials management, maintenance.

Uhlmann Pac-Systeme mobilizes service technicians

MobileX has won Uhlmann Pac-Systeme as a new customer for MobileX-MIP for Field Service, the mobile solution for service technicians. With the introduction of the mobile solution, the system provider for pharmaceutical packaging machines aims to standardize and optimize the global order processing of its service technicians. The project also aims to lay the foundations for further digital follow-up processes, reduce service costs and improve efficiency. Previously, the service technicians used Adobe Interactive Forms for mobile service recording. In 2017, the company was looking for an intuitive, future-proof and offline-capable solution for integration into SAP CS and HR, which would also map travel expense management, in order to optimize its global service processes due to strong growth. Uhlmann Pac-Systeme ultimately opted for MobileX-MIP for Field Service, primarily because of the solution's adaptability to the specific requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. Following the project launch in Germany in August 2018, the rollout with a pilot group took place in November. All technicians in Germany have been working with MobileX-MIP for Field Service since January 2019.

Digital freight documents

When trucks drive on the highways, they are not only transporting supplies for the supermarket or gearboxes for the car manufacturer, but also a thick pack of paper. This is because drivers still have to present accompanying freight documents or customs documents in analog form, sometimes requiring entire folders. The vast majority of companies that transport goods would like to change this. Nine out of ten companies say that it would help them if a digital version of freight documents were also legally recognized in the future. This is the result of a representative survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom. In view of the digitalization of logistics, the obligation to carry freight documents on paper is an anachronism that is no longer comprehensible. According to the companies surveyed, paper documents cost companies and administrations time and money and are also a burden on the environment.

Digitization of production

Salt Solutions is adding solutions for the complete digitalization of production processes to its portfolio. A central keyword is the migration to the new ERP software generation SAP S/4 Hana, which must be completed by 2025. The solutions from Salt Solutions are intended to help with the harmonization and standardization of processes with subsequent migration to SAP S/4 Hana and individualization of customer requirements. They also enable the use of smart information through the use of SAP Leonardo, the creation of digital twins, the collection and provision of raw data and the analysis of this data in order to gain insights from it.

Oil and gas supply chain becomes agile

The SAP solutions developed by Implico for oil and gas trading (sales of heating oil as well as bottled and tank gas) and filling station management enable downstream companies to run their SAP business processes largely in the background without the need for support. They also increase efficiency and strengthen customer loyalty. One of the biggest innovations is that S/4 Hana SDM will include the route planning tool IDM (Integrated Dispatch Management) as standard. It will also be possible to bill charging stations via S/4 Hana RFNO. Implico will also be presenting the latest version of the SAP mobile apps "Digital Fleet Card", "Connected Customer" and "Connected Driver". The applications are being developed jointly by Implico and SAP as part of the Co-Innovation Program. The user benefits range from loyalty functions for customer retention to real-time delivery updates and electronic fleet cards. The integration of all process participants ensures improved efficiency and automation of the entire logistics process.

Leader among the low-code platforms

Mendix, a Siemens subsidiary and provider of low-code solutions for the enterprise, today announced that it has been named a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Low-Code Development Platforms. Body-worn computers, smart watches and data glasses (head-mounted displays, HMD) are now powerful enough to be used for innovative augmented reality applications. In the industrial environment, wearable computing-based augmented reality offers significant potential for increasing the efficiency of information-intensive processes. A structured approach with five phases has proven successful for successfully implementing data glasses technology in a company: Planning, selection of hardware, selection of software, pilot project, productive use. Assuming a positive outcome of the pilot project, the final phase involves rolling out and implementing the solution and training other employees. This is a factor that should not be underestimated in order to guarantee satisfaction and acceptance of the new solution. From then on, smooth operation is ensured by continuous service and support from the provider, who can also make adjustments if necessary.

Wearable computing (smart watches, data glasses) is booming.

No monthly SAP news should be disregarded.
