With the 2bits Procurement Suite and the 2bits Supplier Collaboration Suite, users do not have to limit themselves completely to the newly defined indirect SAP use ("SAP Digital Access"), as would be necessary with a pure third-party solution. An upstream user management system offers the option of also selecting direct SAP access ("SAP Human Access"). After logging in, users can decide whether they want to work either with SAP's own user management and thus directly with their SAP user or indirectly via the 2bits add-ons: depending on which variant is the more cost-effective at the time.

Store of the future

The increasing linking of stationary and digital sales channels and the Internet of Things (IoT) mean that information technology is becoming ever more important for retailers. The current challenge is to cover the new purchasing behavior of customers. For this reason, Allgeier is presenting its own interpretation of the Amazon Go concept with its IoT BoxX, which is fully integrated into SAP. The focus is on the simple selection and purchase of products without having to check out. The products are recognized by a combination of camera and RFID technology. The materials management processes are implemented using an SAP S/4 Hana and CAR system. The sensor technology and machine learning applications are connected via Leonardo services on the SAP Cloud Platform. A number of other on-premise and cloud systems are also involved, such as Hybris Commerce and Hybris Marketing.

Optimization of business partner data

The start-up recogn.ai developed an adaptive machine solution on behalf of Uniserv. This can merge unstructured and semi-structured business partner data from various internal and external sources - and generate added value from the data based on this. Until now, companies have not been able to do this, or only at great expense. Data preparation and merging is often still done manually. To make this task easier for organizations, the start-up uses various artificial intelligence technologies and machine learning. The solution from recogn.ai relies on a combination of different neural networks. These are specialized in processing text and semi-structured data. Cloud and search technologies for machine learning, data acquisition and data exploration are also used. In this way, the technology is able to make even unstructured business partner data sets usable for marketing measures, among other things. The approach developed by recogn.ai offers sufficient flexibility to train neural networks for data management based on company data. The solution can also learn from feedback from employees who are not data experts. This allows companies to act independently of external data scientists. The start-up now wants to expand its solution together with Uniserv.

Efficient transport control

One of the primary logistics goals in the consumer goods industry and retail is adherence to delivery dates. As a result, the players involved with complex production and supply chains are focusing on optimizing transport processes. Leogistics, a global SAP logistics partner in the area of SAP Supply Chain Management, supports customers in making massive savings, particularly in freight costs. To this end, the Hamburg-based company offers consulting services for the transformation of transportation management processes based on SAP TM, including the implementation of integrated transportation and distribution strategies. For example, Leogistics develops concepts for and with customers on how parts of the supply chain can be managed in the cloud.

Market news via SAP MaCo Cloud

The energy industry is a complex and regulated area of activity. The cloud-based solution SAP Market Communication for Utilities (MaCo-Cloud) shifts the handling of German market processes to a standardized environment. This makes it possible to effectively implement changes to market communication. rku.it has therefore successfully connected the new cloud technology SAP MaCo-Cloud. This makes the company the first in Germany to integrate the solution into its own platform environment. Receiving and sending market messages while proactively complying with German market rules and changing formats should become more efficient in the future. This is an important step for the future direction of rku.it.

Backup certification for SAP Hana

Veeam Software, provider of backup solutions for intelligent data management, has now received the official "SAP Certified Integration for SAP Hana" certification for the new Veeam Plug-in for SAP Hana. The plug-in is part of the new Veeam Availability Suite 9.5, providing an SAP-certified backup and recovery solution that enables organizations to seamlessly integrate native Hana backups with Veeam Backup and Replication. This improves the efficiency of the Veeam Availability Platform for critical business applications. In addition to the new plug-in, Veeam supports disaster recovery processes for applications such as S/4 Hana and Business One.

Global Payment Solution

Marquard & Bahls, an independent energy supply company, has introduced the TIS cloud platform as part of the global standardization of its payment processes in order to optimize the management of company-wide payments, liquidity and banking relationships. Several hundred legally independent subsidiaries and national companies work together with numerous international and local banks within the globally active group. The use of the TIS modules Bank Transaction Manager, Bank Account Manager, Bank Statement Manager and Bank Discovery Manager enables the company to manage all bank-related information - accounts, payments, bank statements, signature authorizations, etc. - on a central, user-friendly platform and automate payment transaction processes.

Virtual reality at the touch of a button

SAE presents an interactive, SAP-integrated 3D virtual reality configurator. This makes it possible to create error-free quotations for complex products and systems at the touch of a button using a virtual reality environment. The digital transformation also applies to the global sales process in order to utilize all resources for an efficient and qualitatively excellent CPQ process. Based on the variant configuration, the sales department evaluates directly in the digital twin. SAE's interactive 3D virtual reality CPQ solution makes it possible to interactively configure planning and quotation processes for complex products such as machine and plant systems without errors, visualize them in 3D in real time and create a quotation without burdening internal departments. The configurator uses existing SAP-LO-VC and CAD data simply and directly. This means that the customer receives a complete quotation with an additional digital twin for viewing and checking as early as the initial quotation phase. Different quotation variants can be experienced visually.

Cloud for Continental

The technology company Continental continues to rely on cloud services from T-Systems. Both companies have now signed a contract for the implementation of Continental's SAP cloud strategy, adding new applications from the public cloud. A hybrid cloud is now to grow from the resulting interplay of public and private cloud. Based on the future hybrid cloud architecture, Continental will be able to dynamically procure SAP and non-SAP services.

Flash memory for Hana

Pure Storage introduces new all-flash storage solutions for SAP, including FlashStack, realized in partnership with Cisco. The FlashStack converged infrastructure integrates Cisco's UCS compute platform and Pure Storage's all-flash storage into a scalable server designed to maximize simplicity in deploying business-critical applications. Yet these environments remain complex. That's why joint customers like to take advantage of consulting and standard processes, especially to reduce deployment risks associated with SAP Hana.

Orbis switches to S/4 Hana

Orbis has successfully completed a system conversion (brownfield approach) from SAP ERP to S/4 Hana Enterprise Management using its own resources. The migration to S/4 Hana is of strategic importance for the international software and consulting company on its way into the digital world. With the new ERP suite, Orbis can now optimize business processes in areas such as finance and carry out important digital innovation projects based on the latest SAP technology. This ensures investment security, also because the mainstream maintenance for the SAP ERP application used to date will expire in 2025. The benefits of S/4 Hana are already making themselves felt: In Finance, all data from Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) is now bundled centrally in the Universal Journal and therefore in a single document. This creates a "single source of truth" for the financial processes and eliminates the need for time-consuming reconciliations between FI and CO. As the financial figures are processed at line item level, they can be conveniently evaluated with modern SAP analytics tools at any level of detail and, thanks to in-memory technology, very quickly. Above all, aggregated analyses such as profit and loss balances (P&L) per cost center or project have been significantly accelerated.

Maximum security of supply

The new minimum staffing levels for nursing staff pose challenges for hospitals of all sizes. Saarbrücken Hospital adapted to this development at an early stage and is well prepared for the Nursing Staff Reinforcement Act. For years, the teaching hospital of Saarland University has focused on flexibility in working hours and transparency in duty scheduling. The maximum care provider is supported by Atoss Medical Solution, an integrated software for working time management and staff scheduling. At Saarbrücken Hospital, digital workforce management is an immense help in complying with legal requirements. The software also supports Saarbrücken Hospital in digital shift planning and qualifications management. Those responsible can manage their nursing staff, whether assistants or specialists, in exactly the way required by new regulations. The midnight statistics from the SAP-based hospital information system serve as the basis for daily planning. On this basis, intraday adjustments can be made at short notice if necessary, making the hospital more agile and flexible in its planning.

New logistics locations in China

The project to plan two new logistics centers in China for Festo, a manufacturer of control and automation technology, was successfully completed towards the end of last year. The Hub Asia, a goods distribution center in Shanghai mainly for supplying the Asian region, was planned by IO-Consultants as a semi-automated warehouse on two floors to save space in accordance with Chinese requirements. It will be the first AutoStore warehouse to be realized in China. There is also a large visitor platform with a view of the top level of the AutoStore warehouse and the robots. Together with IO-Consultants, Festo has developed a flexible and scalable picking, layout and IT concept for the Hub Asia, which can meet the Chinese requirements for innovation and space optimization by using an AutoStore system as the heart of the picking system. Particularly noteworthy is the AutoStore solution for the rapid processing of small parts orders using robots, which will be used for the first time in China. Parallel to the Asia hub, the concept and detailed planning, including tender preparation, were carried out for the DC North, which will supply end customers in northern China from Suncun (Jinan) in future.

Extended solution for sales provisioning

Ikor now offers cloud-based commission solutions that complement on-premise applications such as SAP Incentive and Commission Management. By implementing SAP BW on Hana, DEW21 is paving the way for future technological innovations. On the other hand, rku.it confirms its expertise in the Hana environment as an SAP partner.

FOSS compliance

The use of free and open source software (FOSS) in companies is constantly increasing. However, license agreements must also be complied with for FOSS. TÜV Süd has developed a certificate with which companies can check their underlying processes and document compliance with the license agreements. Such a certificate is so important because violating the license agreements can have drastic consequences - from the expiry of user rights and the prohibition of further distribution of modified versions to claims for damages. The expiry of user rights can also have far-reaching consequences for the entire FOSS supply chain and cause lasting damage to the reputation of the software company concerned. TÜV Süd has developed the new FOSS Licence Compliance certification scheme to avoid this, simplify the verification of compliance and enable a standardized procedure. It is based on the OpenChain specification, which has been fully implemented. Based on the requirements of the OpenChain project, the TÜV Süd experts have defined the criteria for the quality, consistency and completeness of the FOSS supply chain. Hitachi is the first company in the world to fulfill these criteria and receive TÜV Süd certification.

Privileged Access Security

Responding quickly to new threats is of crucial importance in IT security. IT managers who rely on automation and intelligent processes are at an advantage. With the new version of the Privileged Access Security Suite, CyberArk presents the industry's first solution that automatically recognizes unmanaged and therefore potentially risky AWS accounts and sends corresponding alerts. The release also includes just-in-time capabilities that support flexible user access to cloud-based or on-premises Windows systems. By extending cloud security capabilities, including automatic onboarding of AWS instances, CyberArk provides the ability to identify privileged accounts in AWS. Organizations can now detect AWS credentials as soon as they are generated, accelerating the onboarding process for these unmanaged accounts. CyberArk improves threat detection in the cloud with the ability to send prioritized alerts on potentially dangerous activity, including bypassing the vault.

No monthly SAP news should be disregarded.
