Against the backdrop of an increasingly protectionist climate with the risk of a digital trade war between the U.S. and the EU, eco, the Internet industry association, and its U.S. partner association i2Coalition brought together key government and business representatives at the European Parliament in Brussels for a first transatlantic roundtable discussion to discuss common interests as well as framework conditions of the EU-US Privacy Shield.<\/p>\n

The discussion focused primarily on the future of the Privacy Shield, which was introduced in 2016. The Privacy Shield is currently the most important legal basis for the exchange of personal data between EU member states and the USA.<\/p>

The legal significance of this agreement is especially important for all those companies involved in the transfer and storage of personal data.<\/p>\n

In the view of both associations, the goal of any future data protection agreement between the U.S. and the EU should be to create effective regulation to protect personal data. The event was the first of a total of three planned \"Transatlantic Dialogue\" roundtables.<\/p>\n
