This is a cloud topic that almost all providers, market researchers and analysts leave out: How does the data get into the cloud?<\/p>\n

A Hana server is set up within a few hours - regardless of whether AWS, Google or Azure are used. Storage space can be rented and additional services such as predictive analytics, machine learning, etc. are ready in a matter of minutes. But how does ERP data get from an R\/3 to the cloud?<\/p>

An SAP project presented by Microsoft in Vienna showed the true challenges of moving to the cloud. The space in the Microsoft Azure cloud was quickly booked, Suse Linux was ready and after a short time the Hana server and S\/4 were also running.<\/p>\n

Now the old productive system had to be shut down and the new system had to be started up in the cloud. An SAP CIO and his team usually carry out such \"release upgrades\" over a long weekend.<\/p>\n

Everyone involved quickly realized that the transformation process would only work if enough bandwidth was available! Transporting terabytes of data from the data center to the cloud is still a major challenge today.<\/p>\n

Where can you get Internet bandwidth in the multiple gigabit range for a weekend? Renting several lines is not possible because this bandwidth is no longer needed after the transport order.<\/p>\n

Cloud visions and Hana strategies and S\/4 roadmaps are important, but the goal is successful production operations and for that you need a lot, a lot of bandwidth at the beginning.<\/p>\n
