According to the experts at Roland Berger, however, this is a danger, because other industries are already showing that this can certainly happen.<\/p>\n<h3>Four business models shape the future<\/h3>\n<p>This is because the industry is suffering from strong cost pressure from its customers. In addition, 70 to 80 percent of the forwarders' business volume is standard business.<\/p>\n<p>Sascha Treppte, co-author of the study:<\/p>\n<p><em>\"Here, the gross margins are around 20 percent, which is where there is cost-cutting potential from the client's point of view. Logistics companies themselves must therefore <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-9e4krr0u49jhzsa1bany48murfmowyss\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Digitization<\/span> push forward, otherwise they jeopardize their future viability\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Some digital business models in the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-dvkiaio6lpume2eoanafzdxymfvd8mvp\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Logistics<\/span> already exist and more will follow. According to the Roland Berger experts, there will probably be four groups of market participants in the future:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Booking and optimization platforms will replace the traditional <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6p5yapol0mi3spo1cnljj9rvtxhd8wkp\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Business model<\/span> of transport companies will change significantly. With online platforms, simple transports can be handled much more efficiently and cost-effectively in the future.<\/li>\n<li>Carriers and terminal operators will continue to be a crucial part of the value chain. In the future, they will benefit from economies of scale and the latest <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-npb3p6wpzf9m5al98cwat9zeik30m75h\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Technologies<\/span> must use to optimize capacity utilization and costs.<\/li>\n<li>Supply chain specialists will continue to develop complex delivery processes that require an industry-specific <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-78h6cpm1093a770j6t91kl1wab8z4fgq\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Know-how<\/span> require. In order to make the increasingly complex supply chains more efficient and transparent, even such specialized niche suppliers need to improve their <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-nzztib0v84ds1srr1nnvzr0kfyfp7pc6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Processes<\/span> automate more strongly.<\/li>\n<li>Service providers provide software products and solutions for the collection and systematic evaluation of large volumes of data as well as other digital services. The offering ranges from online payment systems to GPS tracking systems and automated customs processing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Set digital agenda and measures<\/h3>\n<p>It is still unclear who will take on the various roles in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to act as a carrier, terminal operator or supply chain specialist depends primarily on today's <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-puxcnn4cddmfl1a7fcyun640o9u2hjji\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Business model<\/span> and market positioning. To take advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital transformation, logistics companies should therefore quickly develop a digital roadmap.<\/p>\n<p>As a first step, they should assess their potential loss of revenue and profit through new digital <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-av6n5rlo3cfhllooaz23reahs5y5tqxa\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Business models<\/span> determine. Financing partners should also be involved at an early stage in the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-i5m1mkt8njej5s6an0ej2iw9pn0em00x\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Process<\/span> be included.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Digitalization is also entering the logistics industry.
