height: auto;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bio\/medical <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-n95he77k8eia3m4uxeznc5tffns2vajl\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> from test series<\/li>\n<li><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-1f2oqks5un7mhhikpxvelb68nwngopi2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> of technical networks<\/li>\n<li><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6d0o487cu3rkz2gzxbtkat0msod0hq7g\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> of transmitters, such as RFID tags<\/li>\n<li><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6cjo61gp9bgd0ea2ds7fb9p245yj2mfu\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Geodata<\/span> to flood-prone regions<\/li>\n<li>Machine or sensor data<\/li>\n<li>Traffic data<\/li>\n<li>Weather data<\/li>\n<li>Audio data from call centers<\/li>\n<li>Image data from video surveillance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2. only in the area of CRM are there business cases:<\/h3>\n<p>The focus on CRM (Customer Relationship Management) as the business <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-bz4bfd6t7t6779n07vof634pv2c5t4yh\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">Case<\/span> for Big Data analytics is closely related to the focus on <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-jcnx4h9b7p5iakhbzytjgq73kjtivavq\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> from <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-z3fe7le5z1oqgaotg7w6svndmwm2u3us\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Social Media<\/span>-channels.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Big Data-supported <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-pbab3yuvlyk128ogjb3ilep3vm72zqqn\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> of customer relationships is not of equal benefit and added value for every company.<\/p>\n<p>Which business cases actually come into question for a company depends on the company's industry, the industry focus, the company's business model, the corporate strategy, the IT strategy, the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-51pjx8b5oup1rza5e8grqxgwzj8zfs0r\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">BI<\/span>-Strategy etc.<\/p>\n<h3>3. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-7my7xvvozgwd39g3qqo1hmgp3kmnw3nf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is only of added value for trading companies:<\/h3>\n<p>Also in the context of CRM as the business <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-da4f2fveueb2h22xc6nkm1xb8xy6crd2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">Case<\/span> stands the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-nz2jn7uvl5k2km5p0t4d3abazwg80wud\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Acceptance<\/span>that <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-xdjohqmq9n5b1mzvrz7zbghc6olfly1j\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is only of added value for retail or media companies.<\/p>\n<p>Already the reference to the many Big Data sources refutes these <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-rkcem228t9euansv5peab0z4punp0yej\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Acceptance<\/span>. For example, pharmaceutical companies could provide medical <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-mwaqznq3py3njjhb8jgoj19s0x9f55is\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> from test series as a Big Data source for information on the mode of action of drug combinations.<\/p>\n<p>Insurance companies could <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-xhbe21nuk6bt2mu6tpw51rxxm1p634h1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Geodata<\/span> on wind and weather conditions as a Big Data source for assessing risks to be insured.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing companies could use sensor data to proactively maintain their production equipment.<\/p>\n<p>So there are plenty of potential business cases for non-trading companies as well.<\/p>\n<h3>4. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-q1fzaqd9km40osgj1ul6ncbip6dqfq1l\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> has added value only for large companies:<\/h3>\n<p>In the current discussion about business cases for <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-w9gemqekhfe5nz5qvxmo6vpsvasb90lk\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> arises in part because of the companies Amazon mentioned as Big Data users, <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-46xfojmixwyhncdi3i4gr81oubbpfp60\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\">Apple<\/span>, Facebook or Google the impression that the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-k8qj7lpwwpgoj8411fkqa4qqh8686yvf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> from <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-4g40isjmvzcfe5034821wlmvwv0wmqlb\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is only of use to very large companies and, because of the resources required, can only be implemented by them.<\/p>\n<p>The size of a company is neither a decisive factor for value-added business cases nor a guarantee for the successful implementation of Big Data projects.<\/p>\n<p>Smaller companies, in particular, are very well placed to develop innovative business cases around <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-mxtuv10k34efhmyjk78x3ab6wi3q2o35\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> stand.<\/p>\n<p>And the resources that are supposedly required can now also be deployed via SaaS (<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-qs016lfamn2w76w0bui3gprhnbuhow9m\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Software as a Service<\/span>) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) models. So: no obstacles for smaller companies per se.<\/p>\n<h3>5. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-9ax57wora92wzg9o1loa3nilxsvopig7\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is an IT issue:<\/h3>\n<p>Big Data projects should be initiated by the business departments of a company. These know the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-krwzzc6oadpa1ofvpaipi97xlmivus9l\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Business processes<\/span> and can demonstrate the added value of the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-jrvx610rj6ibjhkhio2rzxneq19u0ecz\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> from <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-7y8ns032z3jfrb1rbpz5om3ul36e5158\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> assess accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, it is advisable to look for the business <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-eg604atbikh9w1qhd2xryuz6yzpr2xjq\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">Case<\/span> to also make use of \"fresh\" suggestions from outside the company. In any case, the business cases should fit the company's business model.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-i4qrqgspmvrho519fixxe9gyqism8ghr\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is therefore primarily a specialist-driven issue and not a technological end in itself.<\/p>\n<p>However, it would be just as big a mistake to conclude that IT should be \"left out\" of Big Data projects or, at best, kept informed.<\/p>\n<p>The <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-h86s9wzwaujztdy77kixj83cir0vg8lf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> from <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-skufcy0czmzix3la7436s6ls6nnsxvj4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> is made possible by suitable tools. Here, IT supports the business departments in the selection of technology and tools.<\/p>\n<p>The early involvement of IT and close cooperation between the business units and IT can avoid a costly proliferation of tools and are therefore essential.<\/p>\n<h3>6. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-sv1pa22uekf19acwn5z9ulv8y24wjf6p\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> requires IT investments in any case:<\/h3>\n<p><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-atgpf800mzc56cip5bw5r6yht2qr1bee\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> does not always require investments in new software and infrastructure. To <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-a906rpjmgqefcq5zd03i8ax487718sgf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> from <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-46rvdh50ok2fpaoiliszvc8reojfbsz8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> For example, the technology that has been established over many years <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-samlhk9k60bu3qlb8jtxkg1gwklgd98u\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data Mining<\/span> come into play.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-mcqo37dwqxpf3b76utjbztoo6s218kla\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data Mining<\/span> can serve as the technology of choice for business cases around text analytics, predictive analytics, and preventive analytics.<\/p>\n<p>At least <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-akdsgid03rodtt5hhgs69favc0f8ais1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data Mining<\/span>-basic functionalities are already provided today with some <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-a8fg1dk3npz3hen80v07sebtqb1il72r\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">BI<\/span>-platforms offered \"out-of-the-box\".<\/p>\n<p>If bottlenecks arise on the company's internal infrastructure due to the volumes of data to be analyzed, the IaaS models already mentioned offer themselves as a measure.<\/p>\n<p>An exact <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-sn5lc5u1r9rayclzl5oq45sdzh3wutxc\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> Nevertheless, it is imperative to identify potential resource requirements, including those in the technical area.<\/p>\n<h3>7. there is a lack of innovative visualization techniques:<\/h3>\n<p>The <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-xtlevd9ih4svh2ssaht45ao76wg6ton8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Visualization<\/span> unknown contexts and facts for an ever larger as well as heterogeneous target group is indeed a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, however, there are promising approaches, such as tree maps, to provide context and facts in <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-gi71bapgmpjrye8dk8ocxq3aq2yx9zur\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> to visualize.<\/p>\n<p>This is clearly illustrated by the \"needle in a haystack\": Imagine we are standing in front of a haystack and are supposed to look for the much sought-after needle - hopeless!<\/p>\n<p>How helpful would it be if this \"foreign object\" from the haystack's point of view were marked in some way, and ideally if we were still made aware of this marking?<\/p>\n<p>Also a combined <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-tbxecct634f7jeghtyjrqg7lgndta46f\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Visualization<\/span> can be one approach. Why not, for example, think about a 3-D<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-e4egc24liynnpdwkmvbzhc9ajdaii5xm\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Visualization<\/span> of a car the presentation of warranty and goodwill costs of individual components or component groups?<\/p>\n<p>Interrelationships are thus much more clearly recognizable and can be analyzed more interactively than in a column report grouped by components.<\/p>\n<h3>8. the mass alone makes Data <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-c567gr4t9wo0reidbb8rqci746ovwzyi\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span>:<\/h3>\n<p><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-xi17xasgslk4754j3q193trxo2j7yawj\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> do not become \"Big\" data simply because of their quantity.<\/p>\n<p>Usually \"the three Vs\" Volume, Variety and Velocity are used for the definition of <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-neib62cy04glp2cjwl10zep4lsvsy97s\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> consulted.<\/p>\n<p>Here, the first V, \"Volume,\" confirms the obvious association of very large volumes of the most detailed <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-u8x6owzfe2a5yc44sasxdxhx07l5k1er\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> - but is only one feature of several.<\/p>\n<h3>9. unstructured alone <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6b8yvuog68idppn7yucys4k4k6zu41a8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> are <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-mhfe8ps2wt8qy02ihq5l4m8hkwnjidb6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span>:<\/h3>\n<p>The second V, \"Variety,\" in addition to \"Volume,\" characterizes the diversity of the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-u4n9iu5dkjpqb7asj74epoe45f4cv0no\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> and comprises variously structured, semi-structured and unstructured <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-y2rnfo9talei8x4v3mh02edtrps8uq1m\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3>10. real-time processing <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-r3amwfjvjd9yimv1fu4rnwvpnrnwmxdd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> are <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-eujh5t6on1rsy06rdjhk3rfz6i6xhly2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span>:<\/h3>\n<p>The third V, \"Velocity\", characterizes the frequency and duration of the data flow. In this respect, real time data are to be processed <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-h7pekz0ce9wboivh8a8le3av1rfhh6oo\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> one of the possible characteristics of data delivery intervals for <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-qrs8fn35a3n24ny4xc4etqysslfo5udm\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, however, not all real time delivered data are necessarily <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-jmgufzb8z7j9real4a2tcvtggs8j5tii\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-4om10t8ytdifo8b78ky9uoipcb7gt2p6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The following are a few examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the operational reporting of order transactions, all changes from the transactional source system are sent immediately after the change to a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-t4x0iftqnboczlaohmqc3rw18w1psuiw\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">BI<\/span>-system supplied.<\/p>\n<p>Although this results in a continuous <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-pxpmpv50bke8gay9e4wjk4kd5n803kd0\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data stream<\/span> - the supplied <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-k9x1yz3qren4mt6wy2o1ywfhixjplaqo\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> are clearly structured and the reporting only takes these into account. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-ukdnug6tswmgtvb6ozqifog9s26nr0a9\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> =&gt; no Big Data<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-zyi94e3bbnolqhupc67zg2vhek6t1cay\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The previous data delivery is supplemented with \"O-Ton\" comments from the customer during the order process in the call center.<\/p>\n<p>These comments are unstructured and thus different to analyze, but are intended to be included in a more comprehensive <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-4nstdzc23a5j7q4nhx3e4xzc0b9ai7w3\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> of customer data, order processes and customer satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>In this scenario, both structured and unstructured <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-jsj3p6shng07wt6xvox6tl0lcj4qxmvp\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data<\/span> for the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-3a3yy219z2idivogoe3ad8s6q3ar6dun\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Analysis<\/span> is used, also the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-j8wk50tsuraikvkkbql41lfn2tk00r5e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Data flow<\/span> not continuous or regular.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, only a company-specific view can determine the added value of using <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-o1v4ig4e90no8rsaluzak8kuyhodqtd2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Big Data<\/span> decide<\/p>\n<p>A serious examination of the topic is recommended in any case.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/e3mag.com\/partners\/msg-treorbis-gmbh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The 10 top misconceptions about big data\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11372 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG.jpg\" alt=\"https:\/\/e3mag.com\/partners\/msg-treorbis-gmbh\/\" width=\"1000\" height=\"112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-768x86.jpg 768w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-100x11.jpg 100w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-480x54.jpg 480w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-640x72.jpg 640w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-720x81.jpg 720w, https:\/\/e3mag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CI-MSG-960x108.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When searching for a personal application scenario or business case for the use of big data, there is a risk that companies will prematurely shelve the topic.
