With the Esri geodatabase based on Hana, geodata can be integrated and made available in both on-premise and cloud systems. Centralized access enables consolidation of the IT landscape and lower operating and administration costs.

S/4-based lectures

Grand Valley State University and Winshuttle introduce automation in higher education around SAP ERP business software: Winshuttle's software will soon be used in lectures at Grand Valley State University (GVSU, Michigan, USA).

The aim is to deepen students' knowledge in the area of system configuration and trial operation of S/4 Hana. Students of the Seidman ERP program at GVSU are taught specialized knowledge about the configuration and testing of enterprise software.

Until now, they have been working entirely manually in an SAP ERP system. But the tedious and mundane manual configuration and testing - such as uploading data or executing transactions in SAP based on the table-based use of data - detracts from the learning experience with concepts and techniques that are actually the subject of the lectures.

With Winshuttle, configuration tasks can be automated and optimized. This allows students to focus on the concepts rather than the mechanics of the tasks, developing and refining the skills they need to successfully build SAP ERP and S/4 Hana systems.

Next generation storage systems

Getting the most out of it: Fujitsu presents new Eternus all-flash and hybrid storage systems. The new high-performance storage solutions significantly support storage consolidation, cope with the rapid increase in data volume and secure performance-critical applications.

With larger caches and more powerful processors, 32 GB Fibre Channel technology and optimized algorithms for multicore and multithreaded processors, both Eternus AF250 S21 and AF650 S22 deliver the performance of all-flash solutions for applications with particularly high storage speeds.

They offer up to 30 percent more performance than their predecessors, allowing companies to comprehensively consolidate their existing storage systems. What's more, they benefit from short system response times, which are crucial for analyses and business-critical applications such as Hana.

New S/4 add-on

With Juniq for S/4 Hana Enterprise Management, WSW Software, a provider of solutions for processes in the areas of logistics, JIS, customs and foreign trade as well as business analytics, is launching an SAP-based add-on that is designed exclusively for operation on S/4 Hana.

With Juniq, companies should benefit fully from the advantages of S/4. This includes the speed of data processing and analysis as well as real-time access to data, key figures on call-off behavior for SAP delivery schedules and SAP processes, for example.

This significantly increases the efficiency of operational processes, especially in logistics processing. At the same time, the add-on, which is based on the principles of the New Programming Model for SAP, enables data-driven business models.

SAP strengthens innovation location France

SAP plans to invest over 150 million euros annually in research and development in France over the next five years. Among other things, SAP is taking over the Paris-based start-up Recast.AI.

France is increasingly becoming an important hub for innovation for SAP. There are plans to open the second SAP.iO Foundry location in Europe. This will give more than 50 start-ups access to mentoring, technology and the dynamic SAP partner network.

The SAP.iO fund invests in French start-ups in its first financing round. SAP will invest 150 million euros annually in research and development over the next five years.

With the acquisition of Recast.AI, SAP intends to further expand the machine learning (ML) functions in Leonardo and plans to spend up to two billion euros in total over the next five years as a sign of its commitment to France.

The aim is to accelerate the company's rapid growth in the cloud and expand technology partnerships with a focus on ML, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

This step is an expression of SAP's global strategy to turn companies into "intelligent enterprises". SAP will focus on start-ups that develop complementary solutions to SAP Leonardo.

Re-certification for NetWeaver

Honico BatchMan 5.0 has been recertified by SAP based on the SAP NetWeaver technology platform. BatchMan integrates with SAP NetWeaver and automates and monitors processes centrally across the SAP and non-SAP landscape with a single point of control.

BatchMan is fully integrated with Abap and uses the user-friendly SAP interface. Solutions supported by NetWeaver can be integrated into SAP solution environments faster and easier.

Customers benefit from improved interoperability with SAP applications and the large ecosystem of solutions running on SAP NetWeaver. Selecting an SAP-certified solution can also help reduce overall IT investment costs and risks.

SAP CEP service provider connection

For the electrical wholesaler Uni Elektro, which is part of the Würth Group, an efficient shipping process is an important part of ongoing business processes. With a shipment volume of up to 170,000 parcels per year and warehouse, this should guarantee fast delivery of goods to customers.

With the support of Serkem, the shipping processes with the main service provider DPD were now carried out exclusively in SAP. Together with Serkem, Uni Elektro began redesigning the processes for CEP, truck and freight shipping for the service provider DPD at the central warehouse in Eschborn.

In the first step, the target processes and workflows for the "Dispatch optimization" project were developed, then the tasks were divided between the two teams.

Uni Elektro optimized the packing table and integrated the adjustments into the warehouse processes, while the Serkem team took over the CEP connection with native label printing from SAP and the implementation of mobile transactions for intermediate pallets and loading. The shipping process is now carried out entirely in SAP.

All shipping-relevant data is available in one system. The shipping labels are printed directly from SAP without third-party software, the shipping data is exchanged with DPD and the tracking data is stored in the system.

SAP Recognized Expertise for Manufacturing

Salt Solutions has been certified by SAP with the Recognized Expertise for Manufacturing. This makes Salt one of three companies in the DACH region with this certificate. "This certificate is a confirmation of our good work and at the same time a promise to our customers.

They can rest assured that their fully SAP-integrated production is in good hands with us," says Salt CEO Hans Christoph Dönges. As experts for IT solutions and system integration in retail and along the supply chain, the provider provides software solutions that support business-critical processes efficiently and fail-safe.

Supply chain for cosmetics group

Arvato SCM Solutions plans to expand its site in Düren to a total of around 85,000 square meters of logistics space. To this end, a new 11,000 square meter hall module will be built by July 2018.

The capacity expansion is necessary because the transaction volume for a leading global cosmetics and beauty group will increase by more than 50 percent in the future.

The customer will use around 50,000 square meters of logistics space in the multi-brand distribution center. In order to cope with the higher volume until the extension in Düren is commissioned, Arvato SCM Solutions rented a temporary external warehouse in Krefeld in summer 2017, which is expected to be used for the short-term storage and distribution of cosmetic products until the beginning of 2019.

Arvato has implemented modern technical and organizational measures to meet the specific requirements. A system was also installed to continuously monitor storage conditions, including temperature and humidity.

The Arvato SAP system has also implemented full batch tracking, including shelf life monitoring and shipping with the "First Expired - First Out" (FEFO) access strategy, in which warehouse management always removes the goods with the most recent expiry date first.

Digital municipal utility

Stadtwerke Pforzheim has reached another milestone as part of a multi-stage project to renew its company-wide IT: following an extensive selection process, Stadtwerke Pforzheim signed the contract to convert key IT applications.

The contractual partner is the full-service IT provider Gisa, based in Halle/Saale, which offered an SAP-based solution. This order is for the ERP system. "With the IT realignment, we are gearing the company towards the future," says Roger Heidt, Chairman of the SWP Management Board.

"With digital and lean processes along the value chain, we can increase our efficiency, implement necessary changes sustainably and thus secure our competitiveness."

According to Heidt, an important goal is to have an efficient and meaningful control and planning tool at the end of the day. The current decision was preceded by the hardware conversion of SWP IT with servers, storage, network components and operating systems, including its own redundant data center, in 2014.

In the first step of the current conversion project, SWP created a comprehensive IT and process map and defined requirements for the IT application landscape for the coming years.

New release

Voquz has introduced the new release 3.1 of the SAP license optimization software SamQ. With the new release, the Indirect Access Risk Analyzer is now an integral part of SamQ.

This function not only ensures that indirect use is detected, but also detects potential sources of danger for possible undetected use. The tool analyzes newly occurring events and calculates a risk value for all locations.

In addition, known sources of danger are monitored using a threshold value system that each user can set individually. If the threshold values are exceeded, an alarm is triggered automatically.

In the wake of the public dispute between SAP and two major customers in 2017, the topic of indirect use still dominates today. The experience gained from numerous consulting projects has led to the development of this function.

Qualification for supply chain tool

The new control and early warning system Supply Chain Performance Assurance (SCPA) from Westernacher Consulting receives the qualification "SAP-qualified partner-packaged solution" from SAP.

This makes the template solution from the Planning & Analytics division of the global business and IT consultancy headquartered in Heidelberg one of the first and few solutions selected by SAP on the German market.

SCPA acts as a template within the established analytics framework and helps companies to easily provide themselves with individual data and key figures. For example, on-time delivery rate, backorder rate or transportation cost mix.

Supply chain managers can display data from different systems in real time, collaborate on a shared database, break down departmental silos, identify problems and risks immediately and quickly bring much-needed transparency to their value chain.

First Concur Customer Implementation Partner

SAP has selected KPS as its first Customer Implementation Partner (CIP) for the sale and implementation of SAP Concur solutions in Scandinavia. The first mover and SAP aim to work together seamlessly and efficiently.

Customers who already use SAP benefit from a standardized best practices program with reduced execution time and lower costs during integration.

KPS supports its clients in agile, business-oriented projects that demand high quality. By applying the rapid transformation method developed by KPS, clients benefit in particular from faster implementation and can therefore quickly reap the benefits of the change.

"Our extensive SAP experience from many successful implementations and the certified SAP concur consultants from KPS guarantee our customers added value in upcoming projects"

says Leonardo Musso, CEO of KPS.

No monthly SAP news should be disregarded.
