Although this also applies to consultants with management responsibility, knowledge and experience pay off more:<\/p>\n<p><em>\"Top specialists often earn more than managers\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But not every <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-a1ktta98i27eiga69g6b1c0kotjvhavw\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-career develops so lucratively. It depends heavily on the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6uglxjyb4bir141gahy4mg7jpltpxjjg\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Branch<\/span> and expert knowledge. And basically to the question of whether the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-3umw0bg49iiny14jx38baahy2v7ywmbd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>consultant in-house in a company or as an external <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-cub0fqv41p034lq4tsrjozaa7rcofacg\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant at a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-ykga49tz43dnvo2k8d7a8jbei6i4wi1k\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-hgem49q7mh9p28e6qi5pxbf7bsb0msyj\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Consulting company<\/span> is employed.<\/p>\n<h3>Specializations are rewarded<\/h3>\n<p>Expertise through experience is one factor, expertise in the sense of specialist knowledge is another. Thomas Biber cites SAP BO (Business Objects), SAP HCM PY (Human Capital Management Payroll) and SAP PP-PI (Production Planning Process Industry) as examples of specialist knowledge that is in high demand on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Consultants with knowledge in these areas will find a job market with many opportunities. These specializations are in high demand and rewarded with salaries at the upper end of the salary ranges mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>Purely coordinating and in-house <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-iw72ltpj6ujkwb9x0ik2ajl2fuvu5q6c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Professionals, on the other hand, operate in a tighter job market with correspondingly lower salary increases. Also <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-7rm8wg5wiuo1dnx6ss848yxxe0hn0l1u\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">ABAP<\/span>-According to Biber, in-house developers and SAP Basis administrators earn less than <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-2i6llfrphtge2vfbod9vl966ztrmnhc0\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-module experts.<\/p>\n<p>The most attractive salary packages are clearly offered by <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-txugome4broawb80qdmtsn38nlz7x74r\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-sxpoq2k6jgojfjuif53itmfihxg8c7sj\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Consulting company<\/span>. Compared to the in-house<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-2d7a5ctby31i1fg50ripceelyezgu1v0\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant at a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-nk82qz6skmo560z8rgsbyplmye78yr4r\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-The external consultant's high level of travel activity, which is usually obligatory, is particularly noticeable for end users. This is worth a lot to employers.<\/p>\n<p><em>\"With experienced senior consultants, this can <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-vjymmubauha4qz6aav2p06636x4ypzk2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant-<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-um63l3dhuy04e9jgs24tvolcity3u4n8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> in a successful <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-w424nbgzn5pohs28llgjunwehthco9o2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Consulting company<\/span> be higher than, for example, the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-tkzrgmraudqvz6u3wdp2dp5zahqgjnte\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> of an IT manager in the upper midmarket\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>says Biber. This is also what makes it so difficult for some people to make the leap from being a consultant: the move from external consulting to an in-house position is often associated with a salary sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>Also the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-pwp2tfmo4kqnknlj506onla4lz8vzq36\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Branch<\/span> has a strong influence on salary development. High <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-1d69hgnnvoofh7pou4em55d0hpmg72ny\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Margins<\/span> at <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-ynmgi4x3yijuzrt8vkddhds6kgehffe4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Core business<\/span> of the companies <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-kadwe01mbagyktua6syffle0etesk8jm\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant-<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-61b3c9o787hfiz99zusrhmqu0iynxf7i\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> clearly. Chemicals and pharmaceuticals are among the sectors in which <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-c94p40x1xze5w7trrjvqk4blz89j0oz2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-consultants earn the most. But also the automotive industry, <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-raeuqftd1w18v99vhj08yppf19bszstd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Financial<\/span> and luxury goods sector is one of the best-paying sectors.<\/p>\n<p>An external <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-4aa6of0ahahnkrhdynzitdjl16uqrg1g\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>consultant with a sought-after specialization in a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-c27ybndmrw52p6cdksiu5iup23w51nn3\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Branch<\/span> with high <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-on2lxo3bojpu8brhvbb32sivy1dbli7m\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Margins<\/span> has a very good chance of earning a six-figure salary after five to ten years. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-gu8bqn4nabak106d9rvnylz92li8ioup\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant-<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-4y0oa11parihwm6wnxduf0zflwiaxb8x\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span>. Medium-sized and large companies often pay better than small ones.<\/p>\n<h3>Difference by region and industry<\/h3>\n<p>As with all other professions, there are strong regional differences in pay. In the eastern German states, including <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-97ze36ph8qroq6td2cxph5psdjtx9rei\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-place\">Berlin<\/span>as well as in the less densely populated regions <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-wgyiawabxb8khn12fxuvzn8qa9zmo07g\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-place\">Germany<\/span> - Lower Saxony, for example - the income to be earned is <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-a24xal0xjvo3gi2ktxng59tjepmm3sxt\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>professional is significantly lower than in the conurbations of south-western Germany. Here, the conurbations around Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Stuttgart and Cologne\/D\u00fcsseldorf are in first place.<\/p>\n<p><em>\"An HCM PY consultant with around six to eight years of project experience can earn up to 100,000 euros as a senior specialist, i.e. without management responsibility, at a renowned industrial company in the Frankfurt am Main area.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>One company in the healthcare sector in eastern Germany has a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-c2zajayw0ddz681so49s5o2ugwnow1x7\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultant with the same background earning around 50,000 a year\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>explains Thomas Biber.<\/p>\n<p>The region and the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-gm5xlqpebfe9hkcs9nvmeh1tef43ulfk\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Branch<\/span>in which a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-cbhmwmfx3gtwofa386igqps0qitfv4p6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-expert can therefore lead to differences of up to 50 percent. However, it should also be noted that most <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-hs3p8lm3wv64b9wbkewriag55lsk7gvs\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-consultant salaries include variable salary components.<\/p>\n<p><em>\"The higher the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-l25zoo790ebm1dzj409t19gn88j2scgb\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span>the higher the proportion of performance-related bonuses. With a <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-l3q0cl5jhwku9oef0wn3pioh4mj1x4hc\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> of 100,000 euros is often only 70,000 euros fixed.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-tvqvshtcj3xy99rakuiygijumhpkmwyt\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Premiums<\/span> on a large scale are common when <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-fykwkcf48qce95nkj4p4odpwbvg68xpd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span> the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-3zqay93zpqdsllv8516x4sen723742f4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Core business<\/span> is, above all in <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-gpf7xi20txintytpndgnzb3q3hfogpig\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Consulting company<\/span>. In consulting there are sometimes <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-o2obyfhrrtbqhwjdqlkq7j7ugbb2ewip\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Premiums<\/span> up to 50 percent of the base salary; 20 to 30 percent performance-based bonuses are widespread.<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking, the higher the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-im9gbrcnprsa0b1q8i3koqec1jiu2y49\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span>the more is earned via the variable bonuses. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-wa4sznn1n5q71y67471fbjp2ejmbljdv\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Premiums<\/span> for the in-house<span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-itx2c0eo5j2pfqxz6kq4kjgmsp8igc1n\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-consultants, on the other hand, are significantly lower.<\/p>\n<p>At <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-3pd7fpw8ewfy4r9t3atc9aawh39gaytt\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-user company plays <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-6nhsdhmesd885trfds42tqjbatfrixys\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span> just one the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-n1426r2pbla4m1sbc48pbuavr8kole5b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Core business<\/span> supporting role, and the in-house consultant does not work in his employer's core business area. In such a constellation, the proportion of <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-sh6pvdvhjin17xuok1psawv0uofv8sy4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Premiums<\/span> usually only around ten percent. In many cases, the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-3dfrlfitzuqiitxsdkj5nzmitifo0eka\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> also only consists of a fixed component, without variable bonuses.<\/p>\n<h3>Curls with company car<\/h3>\n<p>The non-cash benefits for the external <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-5ukymxddxvv8m6k2o1fpb9ztim32snc5\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Consultants should not be underestimated. In consulting, a company car is often part of the salary package right from the start and is justified by the intensive travel activities as an external consultant.<\/p>\n<p>Young people in particular <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-e8zs7d3x0zrpm0uev4avmg2pmgoy3cph\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\">SAP<\/span>-Professionals are usually very mobile, not only professionally but also privately.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the specific company car regulations <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-460ntln5spubco9m11mfv7vbv8yvm1ax\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Costs<\/span> for private use of the car including weekend trips and even vacations are often covered, this is also a considerable financial advantage for a consultant.<\/p>\n<p><em>\"If you do the math, intensive private use with gasoline, maintenance and depreciation can easily add up to tens of thousands of euros per year\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>says Biber.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, some consulting firms stand out from the crowd with attractive and unusual company cars. For in-house consultants, on the other hand, there are only rarely company cars, as they are expected to do practically no traveling.<\/p>\n<p>Can the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-ucckgr7i12ml03jeka5hnk4dtkjp12kp\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> but also increase it through skillful salary negotiations?<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Biber sees opportunities:<\/p>\n<p><em>\"Contrary to popular belief, HR decision-makers have no interest in <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-o6qcitg5szgt7scvnn3j524co4kpr37g\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Salary<\/span> as far as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Experienced HR managers assume that applicants will then either not take up the position or arrive at the new company frustrated from the outset.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The salary expectations stated in an application are therefore taken very seriously by companies.<\/p>\n<p>However, Biber advises applicants to keep a sense of proportion. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-08qnc1feiz7kchczjfivvslly9mh71la\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Error<\/span>to enter into negotiations with as high a sum as possible in order to somehow reach a middle ground with the other party.<\/p>\n<p>The consequence of an unrealistically high salary expectation is practically always that <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-k0f6j9e5i8igqgyfou6vjivg8j5mfyn9\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Employer<\/span> do not invite applicants and they do not get the chance to present their strengths and successfully negotiate with employers.<\/p>\n<h3>Salary negotiation: play your trump card<\/h3>\n<p>Rather, applicants should go into the interview with realistic salary expectations and then find out what know-how, soft skills and abilities the applicant has. <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-zyyighbdk3o8jpv3g7ysbbbz1plh06vf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">Employer<\/span> is considered particularly important in the position to be filled.<\/p>\n<p>This also includes language or industry knowledge. Applicants should take a self-critical look at the extent to which they fulfill these points.
