The basic configuration starts with four processor sockets and can be expanded in steps of four to up to 16 sockets. A maximum of 64 TB DDR5 memory is available. With this configuration, the server is suitable for large databases and business-critical applications such as ERP and CRM. The dedicated external node controller of the HPE Scale-up Server 3250 - a control unit that coordinates the data traffic between the processor modules - achieves a latency of around 100 nanoseconds. A typical Ethernet connection, as used in scale-out systems, is around 10,000 nanoseconds - a factor of 100 slower.

The HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3250 is the successor to the Intel-based HPE Scale-up Server 3200 and HPE's first scale-up server with Intel Xeon 6 processors. At startup, the chip checks whether the firmware has been tampered with. The server is only allowed to boot if the check is passed. This prevents malware from hijacking the boot process. This also protects the server against future threats from post-quantum cryptography. The HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3250 features advanced memory error correction: Defective memory areas are detected, automatically corrected and - if necessary - isolated and removed from the running system without interrupting operations. The HPE Compute Scale-up Server 3250 is available now.

Those who purchase the server via HPE GreenLake use HPE's as-a-service model: The hardware is located in the company's own data center, but is billed based on usage.
