This study was conducted to examine the Java community's reaction to Oracle Java pricing, policies and support. The report shows that 86 percent of Oracle Java users are migrating all or part of their applications. The reasons for this include cost, preference for open source, uncertainty about Oracle's ongoing pricing changes and the risk of an Oracle Java audit.

This comprehensive study, which surveyed 663 experienced Java professionals worldwide, provides insights into the challenges organizations face in managing their Java applications and Java-based infrastructure. The survey explored why Oracle Java users are migrating to alternatives based on OpenJDK (Java Development Kid), the details of the migration process and timeline, and the importance of support and technical expertise for an OpenJDK distribution.

Oracle's share of JDK usage has been declining for years. The report confirms this trend: 86 percent of respondents who use Oracle Java SE are already in the process of switching or are planning to completely or partially move their Java applications away from Oracle. Only 14 percent of Oracle Java users plan to stay with Oracle. Around two thirds of the survey participants who are planning to move away from Oracle Java will take this step within two years.

Of the 14 percent of respondents who plan to continue using Oracle Java, about one-third said they were satisfied with Oracle's pricing and policies. Despite users' concerns about moving to OpenJDK-based distributions, most organizations that migrated were satisfied with the process, timing and results.

<a
