Companies whose proprietary software is too inflexible and costly rarely benefit from switching within the proprietary world: the problems remain, including vendor lock-in that leaves them dependent on the whims of manufacturers. The promising solution is open source software (OSS). With the following steps, migration is guaranteed to work. In the first step of the migration effort, companies willing to switch should keep in mind which functions are covered by the proprietary software they are currently still using. This makes it easier to choose the future open source software. The obligatory health check reveals how well the current IT infrastructure works and which processes need to be optimized and adapted in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second step of the migration is the removal of all remaining dependencies on features of the proprietary software. The open source alternatives take their place. After that, IT proceeds exactly according to the previously created migration plan to get the new software in place.
